The Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) is the region's premier multi-sport event, held biennially and bringing together athletes from the eleven ASEAN member states in competition across dozens of sports. Malaysia is the host nation for the 2027 edition, continuing a tradition of rotating the Games among Southeast Asian nations that dates back to the inaugural event in 1959.
The 2027 SEA Games runs from 18–29 September and will feature both Olympic sports and Southeast Asian traditional sports in a programme designed to balance regional cultural identity with international athletic standards. For many Southeast Asian athletes, the SEA Games represent their most important competitive opportunity — a platform that has launched careers and produced national heroes across the region. Malaysia's experience hosting previous SEA Games editions and its modern sports infrastructure provide a strong foundation for the 2027 event.
