The North East Games is a regional multi-sport competition for the eight states of Northeast India — Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura. The Games provide a vital competitive platform for athletes from a region that has punched above its weight in Indian sport, particularly in disciplines like boxing, weightlifting, archery, and football.
The 2026 edition is hosted in Arunachal Pradesh and runs from 12–18 October, covering a comprehensive programme of Olympic and traditional sports. Northeast India has produced a remarkable number of India's Olympic and Commonwealth Games medallists relative to its population, and the North East Games play an important role in identifying and developing talent at the regional level before athletes enter the national sports system.
